Diabetes

Diabetes can be a difficult disease to manage, and you may be experiencing symptoms such as excessive thirst, frequent urination and extreme tiredness.
Or perhaps you are newly diagnosed with diabetes after a routine check with your doctor, and are experiencing no symptoms at all. You may be in shock, and having trouble understanding which carbohydrates, and how much of them, will keep your condition under control. Diabetes management includes dietary and behavioural adjustments that can sometimes be challenging.

PCOS

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex metabolic disorder that can make you feel very frustrated and low due to the physical symptoms such as an increase in body hair, acne and being overweight. You may also be experiencing irregular periods, fertility issues and feelings of depression. PCOS is a whole body metabolic disease, where there is an imbalance in multiple hormone systems that effect your ovarian and thyroid function, as well as insulin.

Insulin Resistance

Do you feel tired all the time, and have difficulty concentrating? Do you feel bloated and tired after eating a high-carbohydrate meal? Do you have difficulty losing weight and tend to store fat around your abdomen? Do you have high blood pressure or suffer from depression? If you experience some of these symptoms you may be developing Insulin Resistance, which can increase your risk of developing conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes, PCOS and Heart Disease.

Fatty Liver

You may not notice that your liver is enlarged or your liver enzymes are more active, but your health risks have increased if you have Fatty Liver diagnosed. The accumulation of fat in your liver cells can lead to fibrous scarring of the liver, known as cirrhosis, which in turn can lead to the need for a liver transplant. Fatty liver is highly associated to obesity and the amount of fatty chemicals, called Triglycerides, in your blood.

Idiopathic Intracranial Pressure

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) is a neurological disorder that is characterized by an increased intracranial pressure (pressure around the brain) in the absence of a tumor or other diseases. The main symptoms you may recognize are headache, nausea, vomiting, tinnitus (buzzing in the ears), double vision and other visual symptoms. If untreated, it may lead to swelling of the optic disc in the eye, which can progress to vision loss. IIH occurs predominantly in women aged 20– 45. Being overweight or obese strongly predisposes you to IIH.

Sleep Apnoea

Sleep Apnoea is a sleep disorder that is characterized by pauses in breathing, or phases of low breathing, during sleep. Obesity puts pressure on the soft tissues of the throat, which are relaxed when you sleep, and causes them to collapse. Common symptoms include loud snoring, restless sleep, and sleepiness during the daytime. Some people with severe conditions will require a breathing machine to help them sleep at night.

Food Intolerances

Food Intolerances can be caused by a reaction to chemicals found in food, or by a deficiency of digestive enzymes in your body. Symptoms can develop at any age, and may develop quickly or slowly. You can present with a range of different symptoms when you have a food Intolerance. You may get skin conditions such as eczema, develop respiratory conditions such as nasal congestion and a cough, or notice digestive symptoms like bloating, wind and diarrhea. You may also have difficulty losing weight.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

When your intestines become irritated you may suffer from bloating, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, nausea and abdominal cramps. IBS is seen as a stress syndrome, and has both physiological and psychological roots.

Weight Gain

Being underweight can be a cause of stress and anxiety, especially if you perceive your appearance negatively. This may be a concern if you are an athlete or someone who is naturally thin who wishes to be bigger, stronger and more muscular. You may be underweight following disease or surgery and be struggling to gain weight even though you feel you are eating more food and eating more often. Elderly people lose weight through self-neglect. Perhaps they have lost dexterity in their hands, are experiencing a gradual loss of taste and smell, or simply lost interest in cooking and preparing meals. Being underweight increases your risk of malnutrition, electrolyte imbalances, osteoporosis, heart failure and cancer.

Health Issues

Being overweight can have serious implications for your health. Obesity, combined with a stressful lifestyle and poor quality diet, will lead to severe health conditions and disease.

You may already be suffering from one of the following conditions and require support and structure to help you return to optimal health.

You may also be considering a family, be pregnant, or struggling with weight issues after birth.

I will assess your health status and develop a weight loss and recovery plan that is structured around your needs, and personal to you.

Fertility

To optimise your chances of conception, it is important to make your body, and that of the father, as healthy as possible. Being overweight, an unhealthy diet and extreme stress can all have a negative consequence on your attempts to become pregnant.

Pregnancy

You may have symptoms such as morning sickness, constipation, tiredness and mood swings. You may have concerns about what is ok to eat and what you should avoid during your pregnancy, whilst maintaining a healthy weight. You may also be having difficulties adjusting to a changing body shape and size.

After Birth

The birth of your child can bring great joy, but for many women what follows is a rocky emotional time, and for some the bleakness of post-natal depression. You may also be struggling with nutrient and hormonal imbalances and an overweight body that doesn't look or feel the same way it did before you became pregnant.
