Vitamin Watch
Vitamin E can reduce the risk of heart disease, and lower the risk of cancer. It is found in wheatgerm oil, sunflower oil/seeds, hazlenuts, almonds, pine nuts, sweet potato, avocado, museli and spinach.

Nutrition
Sprouts are ‘living’ foods as they are extremely nutritious and continue to increase in vitamin content after they are harvested. They are a natural source of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids. Increased enzyme activity in our bodies will make us healthier and biologically younger.

Sprouts are more nutritious if eaten raw, but also taste great when cooked, especially when part of Asian cuisine. Try them in omelettes, pasta and vegetable dishes as well as salads.

Here are some sprout facts to get you munching:

• Sprouts come from freshly germinated seeds, grains or legumes
• Enzymes in sprouts help us digest the nutrients the food we eat
• Sprouts contain an abundance of highly active antioxidants
• One Mung Bean sprout contains as much vitamin A as a lemon
• Sprouts are an excellent vegetable source of protein

Fitness
Osteoporosis can be a major concern for women, especially around Menopause. It is recommended that high impact activities should be excluded at this time of life, especially to someone new to exercise. This may create fear, which in turn can prevent women from engaging in metabolism-raising activities.

The good news is low-impact, multi-joint compound exercises (basically, the whole body gets involved) can help to increase bone density, strength and balance, while at the same time increasing the body’s lean muscle tissue. The net effect is a strong-boned, fat burning body.

Try these 5 exercises and feel the difference – 20 reps of each please!
1. Forward lunge with dumbbells
2. Squat with lateral raise
3. Striding lunges with tricep extensions
4. Bicep curls with single leg squat
5. Deadlift and row

The WeightMatters Team can rev up your fitness program – one of our Trainers can come to your home or gym. Call us on 0845 301 0470 to find out more!

Mind
Your imagination can work for you or against you. If you see yourself habitually eating in a familiar unhealthy way, chances are you will continue to play out these behaviours on a regular basis. But if you create a ‘pattern interrupt’ in your imagination, you can stop the unhealthy eating pattern from starting.

Visualise a stop sign and tell yourself, “Stop it. I don’t have to listen to those thoughts or feelings.” Then say a positive phrase like ‘I choose to eat healthily this evening.’

There are many options you can include in your Stop Technique. Whichever method you choose be sure to clearly visualize it (e.g. actually imagine a STOP sign).

Here are a few ideas – or you can just make up your own:
• Stop Sign
• Red Traffic Light
• No Entry Sign
• Hand
• Car Park Barrier
• Fire Extinguisher
• Forbidden

The WeightMatters Team can help you break your old eating patterns using some simple psychological techniques. Please call us on 0845 301 470 to find out more.
